The Eastern Water Resources Development and Management Public Company Limited (East Water) held the award ceremony for the “Wastewater Treatment in Pilot School Cafeteria Project 2025” at the Holiday Inn & Suites Siracha Laem Chabang, Si Racha District, Chonburi Province. The event was presided over by Mr. Prajak Amornkul, Assistant President, Strategy Division, and attended by executives from the seven primary educational service area offices across Rayong, Chonburi, and Chachoengsao, who joined in congratulating the 28 model schools recognized this year.
The Wastewater Treatment in Pilot School Cafeteria project builds on East Water’s long-standing water conservation initiatives, which began in 2011. The project aims to instill environmental consciousness among youth and communities, raise awareness about the value of water resources, promote schools’ adoption of standardized wastewater treatment systems, and enable the reuse of treated water. It also encourages the dissemination of knowledge to surrounding communities.
The project is carried out in collaboration with seven primary educational service area offices across three provinces, as well as a joint committee responsible for monitoring, evaluating, and advising schools on improving their wastewater treatment efficiency. Schools selected as “model schools” serve as examples of simple, effective water management practices in school canteens and help spread environmental knowledge to other schools and communities.
In 2025, East Water achieved its annual goal by establishing seven new model schools, bringing the total to 28 diamond-level model schools across the seven education districts in Rayong, Chonburi, and Chachoengsao provinces. The company plans to expand to 35 model schools by 2027, in celebration of East Water’s 35th anniversary.
Mr. Prajak Amornkul, Assistant President, Strategy Division, East Water, stated:
“For over 33 years, East Water has been committed to ensuring water security in the Eastern region through the development of Thailand’s most comprehensive water grid. The success of the Model Schools for Canteen Wastewater Treatment Systems project marks another milestone in fostering environmental awareness among youth and communities. This initiative aligns with East Water’s mission to manage water responsibly and create shared value for society”.
Ms. Chatkaew Phumarin, Director of Sustainability Development, East Water, added:
“This project not only focuses on environmental improvement but also promotes participation from all stakeholders — students, teachers, school administrators, and local communities — to collaboratively manage wastewater responsibly. It also serves as a true local environmental learning center”.
