East Water continuously strives for creating water security
Ready for investment in additional 120 km of the pipeline network system
30 years of dedication to create water security of East Water leads to development of the pipeline network system to support the increasing demand of water consumption. East Water is ready to move forward to develop additional 120 km of pipeline network system with emphasis on the social, environmental, and business growth responsibility in operating the business which is the foundation of sustainable development on the basis of transparent management with good governance.
Mr. Cherdchai Pitiwacharakul. President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Eastern Water Resources Development and Management Public Company Limited or East Water revealed that, throughout the period of 30 years of business operation, East Water has continuously established water security in the Eastern region. Investment has been placed to strengthen the stability of water pipeline network system having the value of more than 22,000 million Baht, resulting in the first and the only water grid that is the most perfect system in Thailand and ASEAN. With the length of 512 kilometers, it connects almost all of the important water sources in the Eastern region in 2 rivers of 4 provinces, enabling East Water to manage the entire system of water resources effectively all over EEC area and minimize the risk of water shortage during the period of drought or the lack of rain.
For the return to the government sector, in addition to payment of the annual pipeline management fee to the Treasury Department between 1994-2021 under the contract and the rate determined by the Treasury Department in the total amount of 588 million Baht, Each Water allocates the annual profits to pay out the dividend to the shareholders. Upon calculation of the dividend paid to the government shareholder for 45%, it accounts for the approximate amount of 5,500 million Baht in total. Moreover, East Water has determined the raw water price that reflects the profits appropriate for continuous investment and ability to allocate the return to the investments at the reasonable rate. This can be seen from the fact that, during the first 10 years, the average raw water price was 7.00 Baht per m3, during the 11th-20th years, the average raw water price was 8.50 Baht per m3, and during the 21st-30th years, the average raw water price was 11.00 Baht per m3.
In the past 30 years, East Water has operated the business on the basis of transparency, good governance and sustainability to achieve the goal of managing sufficient water for all sectors, as well as developing the community quality of life to grow sustainably. Therefore, Est Water has supported the budget for community quality of life and environment in the amount of more than 100 million Baht in the past 6 years.
Mr. Cherdchai added, “East Water has the water grid used for water transmission management within Rayong, Chon Buri and Chachoengsao areas, and another 120 km. is under development, to accommodate the increasing demand of water consumption both in the present and in the future. this investment expansion aims at ensuring the consumers that East Water still has the capacity to supply water in EEC area effectively and adheres to the mission to integrate the raw water management and pipeline system in the Eastern region with emphasis on uniformity and stability. This also includes the maintenance of the pipeline to meet the needs of water consumption sufficiently and in timely manner, as well as expanding the water transmission network for the future benefits. These are all East Water has adhered to for the past 30 years.”
