East Water held the conference to prepare agricultural sector towards sustainable water management project
Eastern Water Resources Development and Management Public Company Limited or East Water together with Rayong Irrigation Project and Kasetsart University went into the area to inquire about problems and needs from government and private sectors in preparation of farmer group to manage the yields for the water management project to be most beneficial for all sectors.
Mr. Pongthanayos Chaiyo, President of the Farmer Group using water from the irrigation canal of Ban Khai right side, Mr. Sawai Pithakrat, President of the Farmer Group using water from the irrigation canal of Ban Khai left side, Mr. Banyat Raksaphon, Village Headman of Moo 9 and official of Ta Khan Sub-district Administrative Organization viewed that at present the farmers sold the paddy to the mill without drying or rented the rice mill area in drying rice. The farmer group wanted to be supported in the construction of the yard for drying the agricultural crops. This would allow them to sell the paddy at the price higher than the price bought by the rice mills for the high-humidity rice from the fields. The farmers could increase the income about 3,000 baht per ton by considering the area along the right main irrigation canal next to Nong Ta Siang Pavilion Moo 6, Nong Lalok Sub-district, Ban Khai District, Rayong Province, and the area next to the multipurpose Pavilion of Moo 6, Ta Khan Sub-district, Ban Khai District, Rayong Province. The area would be used for the construction of the yard for drying the agricultural crops.
This operation would be the cooperation among Rayong Irrigation Project, Royal Irrigation Department, area owners, Nong Lalok Sub-district, Ta Khan Sub-district Administrative Organization, and Kasetsart University. East Water would support the budget by constructing the concrete yard to be used for drying the agricultural crops after harvesting. It is also used as a multipurpose yard for activities for the public interest of the community. There will be a public hearing with the farmers before proceeding to the next step.
The meeting with the agricultural sector is part of the implementation of the water management project to enhance the management capacity which focuses on linking all water resources in the Eastern region. It is the collaboration of public and private agencies between East Water and the Royal Irrigation Department in saving the cost water sources in Dok Krai Reservoir, Nong Pla Lai Reservoir, and Khlong Yai Reservoir to remain in more volume. This could also reduce the power of water diversion from remote sources and improve the quality of life of farmers which would be beneficial to all water users.
